PE & Sports Premium Funding
What is School Sports Premium?
The government provides additional funding to improve provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. The funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. Schools have the responsibility to choose how to increase and improve the physical education offer available to pupils.
Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport. This means that schools should use the premium to: develop or add to their core PE and sport activities/facilities and make improvements that will benefit both current pupils and those joining the school in future years.
Sports Premium Use at Portfields Primary School
We believe P.E. and sport are an essential part of every child’s development. We endeavour to provide high quality physical education and sporting opportunities for every child, equipping them to lead healthy, active lifestyles as well as providing the children with the necessary skills of good sportsmanship, to strive for excellence and not be discouraged if they do not win.
We aim to offer a balanced programme and a variety of activities to provide all pupils with the opportunity to develop a broad spectrum of skills whilst enabling them to develop good fitness levels. We want to raise the aspirations of every student as well as the determination and enthusiasm to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle in future years.
