Residentials
At Portfields Primary School, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our residential trips offer incredible opportunities for children to develop independence, resilience, and a sense of adventure.
Year 4 - Woodrow High House
Our Year 4 pupils embark on an exciting 3-day, 2-night adventure to Woodrow High House in February. This residential centre provides the perfect setting for children to challenge themselves and build their teamwork skills.
During their stay, pupils will participate in a range of thrilling activities. A few of the favourites include:
- Team building challenges: Working collaboratively to solve problems and achieve common goals.
- High ropes course: Testing their limits and conquering their fears on the high ropes.
- Nightline: Navigating through the woods in the dark, relying on their senses and communication skills.
The Woodrow High House experience allows children to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and brings a sense of togetherness.

Year 6 - Isle of Wight
Year 6 pupils embark on an unforgettable 5-day, 4-night journey to the beautiful Isle of Wight. This island adventure is packed with opportunities for exploration, discovery, and personal growth.
Throughout the week, pupils will:
- Explore the island's diverse landscapes: Exploring the stunning coastlines on a boat trip
- Engage in exciting activities: Including a trip to the beach and Blackgang Chine.
- Discover the island's rich history: At Osbourne House and going fossil hunting.
The Isle of Wight trip is a fantastic way for our Year 6 pupils to develop their independence and resilience as they navigate new environments and challenges.
Building Life Skills
Both residential trips offer invaluable experiences that go beyond the curriculum. Children develop essential life skills such as:
- Independence: Taking responsibility for themselves and their belongings.
- Resilience: Overcoming challenges and persevering through difficulties.
- Teamwork: Collaborating effectively with others to achieve shared goals.
- Confidence: Stepping outside their comfort zones and trying new things.
These trips create lasting memories and foster a love of learning and adventure that will stay with our pupils for years to come.
